Premiere: Is There Anybody Out There?

vidukon_cardiff! Despite moving internationally. (I have, alas, been kind of busy after it as well, and my commute is horrible by my standards now, but I'll make a post about my experience ... later this month!) Here's the vid:
I also spoke on the Premieres Timeline Show & Tell panel, hosted bymarah_sarie! I revealed that, due to this whole "moving internationally" thing, I had not had the time to make a vid, and a week before the deadline, I was feeling a bit :( about it. I went through the short songs in my music library but wasn't feeling very inspired, so on the Sunday, I decided to give up and instead add song length information to my giant music spreadsheet. Then, when I got to B, I came across a song where I'd already had a concept for a Rey vid back in 2023 (back when all I knew of the OT and ST was through osmosis, lol) and, as I already had all the clips, I decided I'd be doing that. I've lost the planning post-it, but on Tuesday evening, I wrote down something roughly like this:
intro - Order 66
verse 1 - Rey alone on Jakku
bridge 1 - Rey in the outpost on Jakku
chorus 1 - Finn can't train her
verse 2 - Luke won't train her
bridge 2 - temptation of Kylo
chorus 2 - Kylo won't train her
instrumental - Leia dies on her
chorus 3 - Palpatine won'ẗ train her
( more talk, incl. on the miracle of clipping )
In retrospect, there are a few places where I would like to adjust the timing or add an extra clip to make the tempo of the edits better match the tempo of the music, but, well. I did accidentally play myself into making a vid album (Beyond the Black, self-titled album) so this can be the single version and the album version can be a bit tweaked.
(Also, the album includes a Game of Thrones fansong. halp wtf am I supposed to do with that)

Summer Games Fest reaction so far

Also the audio on most of these trailers is so badly mixed I can barely make out dialogue, let alone what's being said
I don't know if I'll make it through the whole thing. I'm generally forgiving when it comes to games showcases as I understand not everything is for me & am capable of being happy for other people, & sometimes it's okay for smaller showcases to be more lowkey. But this is giving nowt & it's supposed to be a big blowout. I'm so bored.
State of Play
Jun. 4th, 2025 10:04 pmthispatternismineAbsolutely down for a new Lumines game! Especially with a Tetris Effect flavour. Also intrigued by Hirogami - its giving me Tearaway vibes. Sword of the Sea aka Totally Not A Journey Sequel Honest got an August 19th release date, & Ghost of Yotei has a gameplay deep dive coming next month. More Astro Bot challenge levels, which I'm sure will be great as soon as the game drops to an affordable price.
Also that official PlayStation fight stick looks cool.
Cool that Myst & Riven are showing up in the classics catalogue but I ain't paying for PS+, when I have them on my damn phone. Though I assume they'll be purchasable separately so that might be cool if they don't overcharge.
Love that Pragmata ended its trailer with a post-it note saying "it's real". They have definitely heard all the people going 'hey remember that trailer for that weird Capcom game that showed up in that one showcase years ago that felt more like a concept than a game, is that even a real game that's happening?'
That was it for me, but it was pretty packed & there were a bunch of games that I know others are excited for, & I'm happy for them. Some really wild concepts in there - wtf is even going on in Romeo is a Dead Man & Sea Remnants (I think - couldn't read the title on that one)? - & it's always nice to see games trying something different.

Jun. 1st, 2025 05:59 pmbarbiejediEnded the school year in a frenzy, because my room is being moved and I also had to have grades submitted AND take up Chromebooks from my 7th period class, and while on paper teachers had a little bit of wiggle room as far as when all that had to be turned in... the custodian who took care of my hallway wanted my ass moved out of my classroom by 11 AM on the first day of post-planning, when theoretically we were supposed to have until 5 PM on the second day.
Anyway, it was exhausting but it all got done. I celebrated by dyeing my hair purple after graduation, so that I didn't look wild in kids' photos.
It's been a full week, now, since I was last required to do anything school related, and I've been trying to relax.
But then last week, ( it finally happened-- I GOT AN INSULIN PUMP! )
We're going to visit my sisters in a couple of weeks and go to the beach, and I'm very excited about not having to rely on insulin pens for that!! Although I do have some spares that I'll bring with me, just in case something goes sideways with the pump.
In fandom news, Seven Seas has announced a SVSSS Deluxe Hardcover Box Set. I'm assuming they're doing this one as a boxed set rather than individual novels like MXTX's other two series because it's the shortest of the three? B&N just had a 25% off Preorders sale a few weeks ago, and this box set won't release until February, so I'm waiting until the next one rolls around. Which, if history is a guide, will be in July and/or September.
I also have the first volume of the MDZS Hardcovers on preorder, because I apparently never learn from my mistakes. If it arrives and still has as many mistakes as the paperback, and the art isn't any better, then I'll just return it and call it a lesson learned.

May. 29th, 2025 09:33 pmthispatternismineSo I've double-finished Horizon Zero Dawn. That is, I completed it, & then completed it again on New Game+. Had a great time. Both playthroughs were on story mode. Honestly, most of the NG+ playthrough it did feel a little too easy now that I was practiced at the game & the sorts of things it wanted me to do, & with all the weapons & outfits unlocked & maxed out. But there were difficultly spikes even then where I'd be swarmed by a bunch of the trickier machines at once & it could get frustrating, & I still sucked at aiming, though I could see some improvement (though I'm mainly blaming the fact that the reticule was impossible to see & there was nowhere in the settings to change that, so I often couldn't see exactly where I was aiming). Might maybe try another playthrough on easy or normal at some point, see how it goes, but I'm in no hurry & I need to take a break from the game for a bit & get other things done).
I've taken a load of photos (like I've got nearly 200 sitting in a folder that I need to go through (& that's not counting trophy screenshots & ones I made of tutorial screens for my own reference) & will post them at some point.
Should probably make an Aloy icon as well. Because I love her.
